JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas– Beginning June 8 and 9, Basic Military Training graduation events will span two days and include the return of the traditional military parade to the Gateway Wing Parade Ground.

Following the recent announcement that proof of COVID vaccination was no longer required to participate in BMT ceremonies, today’s press release reflects the improvement in current health protection conditions in the region. San Antonio local who helped bring about change.

The 433rd Training Squadron will be the first to run the two-day graduation events on Wednesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 9. (Airmen graduating on these dates will begin their BMT on Tuesday, April 19.)

The following terms will apply starting with the BMT graduation events on June 8 and 9:

*Anyone with access to the facility may attend graduation events.

*Guests who do not yet have access to the facility must be invited by their intern and approved to receive a facility pass.

*Interns can invite six people who need access to the facility.

*Persons under the age of 18 may accompany parents/guardians and are not required to have a separate facility access pass.

The first day of graduation events will begin with the Airman’s Run, followed by the Airman’s Strike Ceremony and culminate with the freedom to install or uninstall. Day two will be the BMT Graduation Parade followed by an on or off facility freedom. Graduates will continue to be shipped to their respective technical training locations on Fridays.

“Thanks to the tremendous support of our mission partners at Joint Base San Antonio, we have been able to gradually open our diplomas to an increased number of visitors, as well as return to the parade grounds,” said the Col. Rockie Wilson, 37th Training Wing Commander. “We have fought hard over the past two years to keep our trainees, staff and community safe, and to ensure that the core training mission never misses a beat. The return of two-day graduations is an exciting time for these graduates and their families.

As a reminder, access to the installation is determined by the commander of the installation and the control procedures of the security forces. Guests invited by their intern through the formal invitation process will be pre-screened and receive their installation pass prior to graduation activities. Security forces will not process or issue additional or same-day passes for attendance at the graduation ceremony. Personnel with authorized Department of Defense credentials authorizing escort privileges may escort up to five non-DoD-accredited personnel in their same vehicle without a pass being issued. Attendants are required to stay with their visitors and maintain control of them at all times during set-up.
