Classic car maker Keighley on course for further growth

A CLASSIC car specialist that manufactures replacement body panels for a range of models is expanding.

Last year, Ex-Pressed Steel Panels moved to a former manufacturing unit in Keighley to accommodate its panel finishing, storage and logistics operations.

And the company is looking to recruit additional skilled workers to join its team.

The company has a unique press process that allows it to produce panels from its own molds – to meet the needs of classic car enthusiasts, clubs and businesses that would otherwise struggle to find parts.

Last year’s move to the Pitt Street premises was in response to growing customer demand not only in this country and Europe, but around the world, including the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

The bespoke parts production process begins in a workshop in Cowling and ends at the company’s base in Keighley.

Fourteen people are currently employed at the two sites.

The panels eventually came to be fitted to dozens of different cars – from classic Fords such as the Capri, Escort and Cortina, to Peugeots, Jaguars, Lancias, Triumphs and Hillmans.

In addition, the company is keen to meet the needs of a growing market of “young people” who own emerging classics such as the Ford Sierra Cosworth, Subaru Impreza, Jaguar XK and BMW models.

Former Pressed chief executive Mike McColgan said: “These are exciting times for the business.

“We pride ourselves on producing the finest replica panels for car restoration enthusiasts, whether for the owner of a 50 year old Mini or to fit an up-and-coming classic like the Honda S2000.

“We want to make sure that whatever your car is, we’re here to help you keep it in pristine condition and create quality memories.

“The expansion to Keighley has given us the space and the opportunity to really grow and continue to provide our customers with the best possible service.

“In addition, we are always looking for skilled workers who want to join the Ex-Pressed team and pursue a career in the automotive industry.”

He added that customer feedback via social media reflected the team’s work.

One person said they bought a number of panels from the company for a complete rebuild of a Morris 1100, and they were “perfect”.

A New Zealand customer who ordered Cortina panels described them as “fantastic”.
