Prince Harry says he makes sure the Queen is ‘protected’ may have been triggered after seeing Prince Andrew escorting Her Majesty to the Prince Philip memorial, aides at Buckingham Palace have claimed.
The Duke of Sussex, 37, last week claimed he made sure his grandmother had “the right people around her” in an interview with American television host Hoda Kotb of the Invictus Games at The Hague.
Some royal watchers at first took his comments as a dig at his father and brother, calling him ‘delusional’, while others said he may have been targeting private secretary Sir Edward Young or his Angela Kelly chest of drawers.
However, Buckingham Palace insiders have now claimed he was instead targeting Prince Andrew, who has been embroiled in a scandal over his friendship with late pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
A Buckingham Palace source told the Mirror: ‘These images of Prince Andrew escorting the Queen to Westminster Abbey may have upset Harry, which is now believed to be one of the reasons he made a such a surprising remark.

Buckingham Palace insiders have now claimed he was instead targeting Prince Andrew, who has been embroiled in a scandal over his friendship with late pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
“Harry knows the Queen’s aides well and there is no animosity. The Palace knew he could do an interview, but no one expected those kinds of comments.
The source added that Prince Harry seemed to imply he was worried for the Queen’s safety, which could be due to his closeness to Andrew in recent months.
They also said the Duke of York was trying to keep a low profile after the huge damage he had done to the monarchy, so Palace officials were determined to deflect Harry’s comments away from him.

Royal biographer Tom Bower said: “He is not just targeting Charles and William, but also Edward Young, his private secretary.”
Mr Bower added that all of Harry’s requests had been ‘rejected’ and that his NBC interview was a way to ‘slap in the face’ at those opposed to the Sussexes’ self-promotion.
Prince Andrew has been condemned around the world for his close friendship and association with deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

But the Queen would have been more lenient about her relationship with him.
It comes after Andrew earlier this year agreed to a multi-million pound settlement with Virginia Giuffre.
Ms Giuffre had accused him of sexually assaulting her on three occasions, including when she was 17.
The Duke of York has repeatedly denied the charges.
