Road closures in Bangkok for APEC leaders motorcade protection drills

Many roads in Bangkok will be closed in the late afternoon today (Thursday) and tomorrow as the Metropolitan Police and Foreign Ministry conduct a second exercise for police escorts of the APEC leaders’ motorcade , in preparation for the APEC summit in Bangkok next week.

Deputy government spokesman Traisuree Traisoranakul said the closures are necessary and the public are advised to avoid the affected roads during exercise periods, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 p.m. evening at 3 o’clock tomorrow morning.

The roads that will be closed this afternoon are:

  • Phitsanuloke Road, from Suan Misakawan to Sisao Thewet intersection
  • Ratchadamnoen Road
  • Na Phra Lan Road
  • Na Phra this road
  • Maharat Road, from Tha Chang Junction to Tha Tian Junction
  • Thai Wang Road
  • Sanam Chai Road
  • Phra Pinklao Bridge

Roads closed from tonight until tomorrow morning include:

  • Ploenchit Road, from Ratchaprasong intersection to Ploenchit intersection
  • Sukhumvit Road, from the intersection of Ploenchit to Sukhumvit Soi 22
  • Ratchadamri Road, from Ratchaprasong Junction to Sala Daeng Junction,
  • wireless route
  • Ratchadapisek Road, from Asoke Junction to Rama IV Junction
  • Rama IV Road, from Sala Daeng Junction to Rama IV Junction
  • Sathorn Road, Wireless Intersection to Narinthorn Intersection

Additional closures are in progress:

  • Phetchaburi Road, from Urupong Junction to Yommarat Junction
  • Phitsanuloke Road, from Yommarat intersection to Suan Misakawan intersection
  • Highway entrances and exits at Silom, Yommarat, Phaya Thai, Ploenchit and Rama IV

The alternate routes recommended during the closures are:

  • Phra Samen
  • Dinsor
  • Ta Nao
  • Bamrung Muang
  • Suan Luang

  • Phra Pokklao Bridge (4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.)
