Snake elimination Brek Shea in Inter Miami training

Inter Miami started pre-season training for the 2022 campaign this week, and Brek Shea was back with the club after signing a new contract on Wednesday. At 31, Shea is a versatile winger/winger/left-back with international experience and a few trophies on his shelf. He is an artist on and off the pitch. He is also a Texan who is not afraid of snakes.

Florida is home to some pretty scary wildlife, from panthers and bears to alligators, crocodiles and rattlesnakes. But Shea, from College Station, Texas, knows a thing or two about what will and won’t hurt her. He took a break from his training this week to escort one of these creatures off the scene.

Shea grabbed and held a snake that appeared to be about 2 feet long. He then brought it to a staff member with a trash can to evict the snake from the training facility.

Luckily for Inter Miami fans, Shea was in no danger from this snake. While I’m a horrible Texan who would probably have run for the locker room, Shea acknowledged it was harmless — probably a runner or garter snake — and showed no fear. And at least he didn’t throw the snake into a group of supporters like this Brazilian footballer.

I could refer to Florida Man, but Shea is more Texas than Florida. In 2010, while a member of FC Dallas, he posed half-naked with another half-naked woman and a baby donkey.

Inter Miami begins its third season in MLS on February 26 with a home game against the Chicago Fire at DRV PNK Stadium, the temporary home of David Beckham’s club. More importantly, Shea and Inter take on Philadelphia and Phang on May 18 and July 13, when we’ll find out how Shea fare against snakes his size.
