RPF recovers 383 live turtles from trains

Agartal: NF Railway’s Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered ganja worth Rs 15.38 lakh while checking different trains on 5-7 February 2022. NF Railway’s RPF also recovered a total of 383 live turtles on trains at Katihar and Kamakhya stations on February 5, 2022.

In an incident on February 7, 2022, FPR team from FPR Agartala post office carried out a check in train No. 20501 DN (Agartala – Anand Vihar Tejas Rajdhani express) at Agartala station jointly with the Agartala GRP. Upon verification, the RPF team recovered 13 unclaimed bundles of ganja, weighing 62 kg and worth around Rs. 6.2 million. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for necessary actions. Also that day, the RPF train escort party, while escorting train No. 20501 DN, picked up 15 bundles of ganja weighing 29.3 kg and worth around Rs. 2.93 lakh.

Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to Excise Department, Dharmanagar for disposal. In another incident on February 5, 2022, the RPF train escort team while escorting train No. 07679 DN (Agartala-Dharmanagar Demu special), recovered 05 unclaimed bags containing 33 kg of ganja worth around Rs. 3.3 million. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further necessary action. On that day, the RPF train escort party, while escorting train No. 15626 UP (Agartala – Deoghar Express), recovered 29.5 kg of unclaimed ganja worth approximately Rs. 2.95 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Badarpur for further necessary action.

On February 5, 2022, the RPF team consisting of officers and staff from the RPF post, Katihar (East) made a recording of train No. 19305 (Dr. Ambedkar Nagar-Kamakhya express weekly) and detected an unclaimed burlap sack kept under a coach’s seat. Upon checking the jute bag, 148 live turtles were found.

Additionally, the retrieved turtles were handed over to the Range Officer of Forest, Katihar (Bihar) for taking legal action. Also on that day, when train No. 19305 arrived at Kamakhya station, the RPF team from Kamakhya carried out checks on the said train.

During the check, they detected 10 unclaimed bags containing 235 live turtles. Later the retrieved turtles were handed over to Khanamukh Forest Beat Officer, Kamrup East Division, Guwahati Range for taking further necessary legal action.
