“I’m not very good at this, but we asked if we could just thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts,” Cindy Fitzgibbon said.
“I would say one of the hardest things in life is to outdo your kids. I am so blessed,” said John Fitzgibbon.
Fitzgibbon was killed on August 9.
A Civil Liaison on behalf of the Secretary of the US Army was in attendance and reiterated how the 23-year-old soldier’s family will continue to be supported by his military family.
Family friends in attendance said Fitzgibbon’s parents have always been proud of their son.
“There has never been a mother so proud of her child,” said family friend Tammy McLean.
“They are an amazing family. She always said it takes a village to raise a family, and the family is very strong in their faith,” said Nadine Cannon, a friend of the family.
The town of Windermere also said it would escort Fitzgibbon’s coffin to his funeral.
